VALLEYLIFE will be holding our Annual Special Olympics Pizza Party at Sunnyslope High School on August 5th, 11am to 1pm.
All members and staff of VALLEYLIFE who participated in Special Olympics are welcome to join in the fun!
The most recent Erika Y. Shafer Art Gallery entitled “In Our Spare Time” had some very special guests on Thursday, July 21. The Knights of Columbus donated almost $2,000 to VALLEYLIFE for its various programs. Joseph Kosikowski and John Schellinger represented the Knights, and presented the check during VALLEYLIFE’s opening of its newest art gallery.
Former Miss. Arizona 2002, Laura Lawless, who will also be VALLEYLIFE’s Key Note Speaker for its Legacy of Love on Oct. 1 also stopped by to see VALLEYLIFE’s facilities and enjoy the evening.

State Representative Kimberly Yee visited VALLEYLIFE, Tuesday July 19, 2011. Rep. Yee toured the non-profits main campus located at 1142 W. Hatcher Rd. in Phoenix.
Representative Yee had a great time taking a tour of our facilities and speaking with many different Directors to find out what’s going on at VALLEYLIFE!
Rep. Kimberly Yee was appointed to represent Arizona’s 10th Legislative District on August 2, 2010. Yee, a Phoenix native, was born in District 10, and has an illustrious career in public policy and governmental service working on all branches of government: Executive, legislative and judicial branches. Most notably, Yee was appointed by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as his Deputy Cabinet Secretary and member of his Cabinet.

A group of over 70 Deloitte employee’s from all around the United States, took time out of their busy schedules to volunteer their time and help “prep” two VALLEYLIFE homes for painting.
On Wednesday, July 13th, Deloitte put down their pens, turned off their computers and rolled up their sleeves for a little prepping and priming of VALLEYLIFE’s Friar and Hayward homes.
Braving the Phoenix sun, the volunteers scraped and primed both homes for a soon-to-be paint job on both homes.
“They did a great job,” said Drew Tapolcai, VALLEYLIFE’s Public Relations Coordinator. “This is a job that really needed to get done, and they did the job perfectly! We truly thank them for all their hardwork and time they put into this project.”

Margaret Stephens-Reed, proud owner of season tickets to the Phoenix Mercury, finds there are several games she will not be able to attend so she is donating those tickets to VALLEYLIFE.
The tickets (2 per game) are lower level, center court, section 114, row 13 (only 13 rows from the floor), seats 6 and 7. The tickets are for Friday, July 15 at 7:00 p.m. vs the Washington Mystics*; and Tuesday, July 26th at 7:00 p.m. vs Seattle Storm**.
The way this fundraiser will work is if you are interested in these tickets please do the following:
1.On a piece of paper write:
a. The date of the game you are interested in 7/15 or 7/26.
b. The amount you are willing to pay/bid for the tickets
c. Your name and phone number
2. Put the paper in an envelope and give the envelope to Jennifer
Outlaw. (Please indicate which game the bid is for on the outside of the
envelope. One envelope per bid.)
3. The tickets for each game will go to the highest bidder.
4. If you can’t make it into the office, call Drew at 602-371-0806 ext. 170 and
ask him to put your bid in for you.
5. Bidding for the Washington Mystics game closes 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July
12th.
6. Bidding closes for the Seattle Storm game at noon on Friday, July 22nd.
Each ticket retails at $65.50 each, so the value of each auction item is $121.00. You have the opportunity to get a really great deal.
Let me tell you what you’ll win:
If you haven’t attended a WNBA game before you are really missing out. It is a great, fun-filled evening. There’s the Hip-Hop Dance Squad, a variety of contests (dance and muscle to name a few), there’s the friendship train during the 4th quarter where fans get to leave their seats and dance with the hip-hop dancers on the basketball court, but best of all there’s great basketball! And if the Mercury keep playing winning basketball, I think these two games will be terrific!
Here’s something about the two teams:
Washington Mystics are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and they are hungry for a win on the road but can they bring down the temp on our Mercury? I don’t think so.
Last year the Seattle Storm went on to win the WNBA championship after beating our Mercury in the Western Conference Finals. Currently Seattle is a half a game behind the Mercury and the Mercury are 1.5 games behind the conference leaders. The Storm beat the Mercury in the season opener in Seattle, will the Storm blow into town and repeat? I don’t think so.
I hope you will participate. All proceeds go directly to VALLEYLIFE.
DTA 3 and VALLEYLIFE have recently created an exercise class for the members and staff to participate in together. In Marsha Ngiruchelbad’s office, we have put in a projector with a big screen on the wall, this is what makes it all possible! There are many videos to choose from, but our members seem to enjoy Richard Simmons videos the most. This class has been a great way to get the staff and members together, and keep the members and staff healthy and active as well. The class has been a great success and would like more to join! The members like the music and the movements they learn from the videos. This class is a great addition to the many activities VALLEYLIFE offers for their members to participate in.
VALLEYLIFE has given birth to not only Chickens, but Ducks as well! The Ducks are located at VALLEYLIFE’s main campus in DTA 2. The Ducks were given an extended box the Members call the “Duck Condo”, which has a door so the ducks can go back and forth. Let’s welcome the baby ducks to the VALLEYLIFE family!

On Friday, June 17, 20 IBM employee’s gave up their laptops and super-computers to help VALLEYLIFE finish landscaping its 40th Avenue home. The IBM team shoveled and hauled over 12-tons of rock and dispersed that rock throughout the front and back yards of the home.
VALLEYLIFE would like to thank all the IBM-er’s for their hard work and persistence in getting this job done! Thanks everyone, the house looks great!
